The Alphabet Game is created and operated by Jeff Dobson (JRDGames). This page explains the information used to run the game and understand how people play.

Contact and feedback

For feedback, bug reports or privacy questions, email jrdgames.jeff@gmail.com. For a bug report, include your device/browser, the route and what happened. Please leave private player links and sensitive personal information out of your message.

If you email, your email address and the information you send are used to respond and investigate your request. Email is handled through Gmail. Contact us at the same address about access to or deletion of information you have provided.

Saved progress on your device

The game uses browser storage to remember Daily Challenge progress, scores and route unlocks, settings, and your Play with Friends seats. Free Play runs are not saved for later resuming. Clearing this site's browser data removes local saves and remembered seats and may prevent you from returning to a multiplayer seat without its private player link.

Play with Friends

Friends games store the names players choose, room settings, route progress, turns, scores, optional in-game messages, and invitation and player credentials on our Cloudflare-hosted server. Room participants can see the shared gameplay information and messages. Private player links grant access to a seat; share them only with the intended player.

Rooms expire after seven days without qualifying gameplay activity. Completed rooms expire seven days after their last qualifying activity; simply viewing or refreshing a room does not extend its life. Expired rooms become unavailable and are removed by scheduled cleanup. Clearing browser data does not delete a room from the server.

Google Analytics

In regions that display an analytics notice, you can change your choice through Analytics settings in either game menu. US and Australian visitors do not see this menu option. The game works either way. We remember your choice in this browser for up to 180 days. Turning it off stops future collection and clears our Google Analytics cookies; it does not erase information already collected.

We use Cloudflare's approximate country/province classification to choose the notice, without requesting GPS access. In the EEA, UK, Switzerland and Québec, analytics stays off until you allow it. US and Australian visitors have no approval prompt. Elsewhere in Canada, a notice offers an opt-out. Unknown or unclassified regions use opt-in.

We use Google Analytics to understand visits and improve the game. It uses cookies to distinguish browsers and measure sessions. Reports can include device/browser information, approximate location, referral and campaign information, and interactions such as game starts, resumes, finishes and score sharing.

Gameplay measurements include the mode and route, Daily date, score, letters found or skipped, distance traveled, finish reason, sharing method and multiplayer player count. A successful share measurement means a copy or sharing handoff, rather than confirmation that someone received a message.

Our gameplay events do not include player names, messages, invitation or seat credentials, recognized text, photo URLs, or the text of shared scores. Page addresses sent by our integration omit fragments and arbitrary query values, retaining standard campaign tags. Google Signals and advertising personalization signals are disabled in our Google tag.

Learn about how Google uses information from sites that use its services and Google's privacy policy. Browser cookie controls and the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on provide controls over Google Analytics. Blocking analytics does not prevent gameplay, although blocking all browser storage affects saves and multiplayer seats.

Hosting and performance

Cloudflare hosts the game and multiplayer database. Hosting providers process network information such as IP addresses and request details to deliver and protect the service. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics for visit and page-performance measurements; that analytics service does not use cookies or local storage. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Road-trip photos and letter recognition

Road-trip photos load from Mapillary and its image delivery providers. Those requests expose ordinary network information, including your IP address, to the provider. The places shown are the route's locations, not your device's location. The game does not ask for your GPS location or camera access.

Letter recognition runs on your device. The circles and image crops used to check letters are not uploaded to a recognition service. See the game Credits for imagery attribution and licenses and Mapillary's privacy information.

Your information and choices

Avoid putting sensitive information in player names or messages. Use your browser's site-data settings to remove local data and cookies. Service providers may process information in other countries under their policies. Analytics retention depends on the service's retention settings; contact us with questions about information associated with your use of the game.

We update this page when the game's data practices change and revise the date above.
